My experience at Rise in Malibu was deeply disappointing and, at times, genuinely uncomfortable. I want to be very clear that this is my personal experience, but after attending more reputable and clinically credible programs since then, I now see how many red flags I missed in the moment. One of the most unsettling moments happened within the first few days: One of the owners spoke to me, then placed his hand on my shoulder and left it there even after he finished talking. As someone with a history of trauma and past abuse, this made me feel extremely uncomfortable. It wasn’t professional, it wasn’t appropriate, and it immediately put me on edge. I didn’t feel safe or respected in that interaction. On top of that, Allison made several promises during admission that were never actually delivered once I arrived. A lot of what was described as part of the program simply didn’t happen. The disconnect between what was sold to me versus what actually took place felt misleading and honestly pretty manipulative in hindsight. Another serious concern: They waived my out-of-pocket costs and even helped pay for my plane ticket. At the time, I didn’t understand the implications — I just assumed they were trying to help. But after going to legitimate, well-run programs, I’ve learned that this kind of behavior is a major ethical issue and raises serious questions about compliance and insurance standards. It’s the kind of thing that made me look back and realize how unprofessional the entire setup really was. Overall, Rise in Malibu did not feel clinically sound, ethically aligned, or transparent. Between the uncomfortable owner interaction, unmet promises, and questionable financial practices, I cannot recommend this program. If you are someone who values professionalism, safety, and evidence-based care, I strongly suggest looking elsewhere. There are reputable programs that treat clients with respect, uphold strict ethical standards, and actually deliver the care they promise.
Had to go to their “Mayberry” location and it was the nastiest, LONGEST 3 days of my life. The doctor gave me a tiny sliver of the amount of medication usually used and although I was in agony, nobody gave a rats butt. Then when I went to leave, they couldn’t find the stuff they took from my belongings. Total nightmare of an experience. No “Rise Mayberry” page to leave a review but if you are a real addict/alcoholic do not try to detox here. You might as well do it at home! Also their washer put black marks all over mine & another girls clothes… come here if u want your belongings lost/trashed!
Don’t go to these centers, if your detox symptoms are going to be bad. They will kick you out, and then blame you. I was detoxing from benzos, and on day 11 when I wasn’t even finished with my taper, I talked to a psychiatrist named “Dr. Benjamin” and he talked to me for two minutes. I told him my symptoms were and he told me I wasn’t a good fit for the facility and then the therapist came in my room and told me that if I didn’t go to a psych facility that he recommended, even though he didn’t even do an assessment on me that I couldn’t stay there and finish my detox. They don’t want to deal with you if you’re really sick. So don’t go there if you’re prone to bad detoxes, because they will get stressed out and then gaslight you and turn it around on you and blame you. My mom had to leave work early drive two hours to come get me meanwhile I’m still withdrawing sick as heck, packing, shaking, sweating, massive headache, heart palpitations. I will be filing a complaint against this reckless treatment with the state of California. I am traumatized, by the treatment I received here. And at the end of it, I was told by the therapist Dr. Nesha that my insurance was going to give them “pushback”if I stayed another week anyways. It was just completely unprofessional and a failure of my care at all levels. Meanwhile, my insurance has paid them for my detox that I didn’t get to finish, so I will also be calling my insurance company as well if they try to submit a fraudulent claim.
Terrible experience, though accommodations are nice and food is ok. I have several health issues (not all of them are alcohol related) and had to go to the Hospital for quite a few days. I had stabilized my condition, and on the morning I was to be discharged with the Hospital Dr's approval, I was told I'd be going back to Rise. However, mere minutes before being discharged, Rise reversed their decision and said I was too "complicated" for their care, or so I heard through my case manager. Rise made this assessment by looking at a few test results and without even examining me in person. In fact, I had never met or even talked to Dr Raskin before he made that decision. At this point, Rise went radio silent. No referrals or anything. They packed and dropped my luggage off at my hospital with several items conspicuously absent / stolen. I tried reaching out but to no avail. So now it's the afternoon, and I have nowhere to go (a hotel would be a horrible decision). I'm scrambling to find an alternate rehab, begging the hospital to let me stay another night. If they don't let me stay, Rise might as well have bought me a bottle of vodka as a parting gift. Once Rise realized they weren't going to get more money from me, they kicked me to the curb without even a "good luck." Is this the kind of place you want to go and people you want to treat you?
